Née
à Varennes au Québec, Canada, sur la rive sud du Saint-Laurent, j’ai toujours aimé
dessiner.
Diplômée en 1978 du Cégep du Vieux Montréal, en arts appliqués, option
graphisme, j’ai exploré depuis une vingtaine d’années plusieurs
disciplines et différents styles tout en consacrant plusieurs années à la
cartographie.
Mon
conjoint océanographe est sans contredit l'instigateur de ma
fascination pour l'univers marin. Lors de voyages, j'aime à passer beaucoup
de mon temps sur et sous l'eau à contempler et à m'inspirer des beautés océaniques
que je m'empresse d'immortaliser sur mes tableaux.
Installée à Newmarket, au nord de Toronto, en Ontario, je poursuis ma démarche
artistique en expérimentant et en m’amusant à parfaire ma technique en intégrant
divers matériaux afin de représenter de façon distinctive mon thème de prédilection :
le monde marin.
La technique mixte que j’utilise me permet une spontanéité, une flexibilité
et une immense liberté. Je crée d'abord mon support en utilisant différents
papiers que je coupe, broie, plie et colle pour donner divers volumes à ma
surface de travail. L'influence du monde sous-marin sur mon œuvre est
palpable par le choix des couleurs vibrantes que j'utilise. Les bleus outremer
ou encore les rouges fuchsias et les jaunes de cadmium se côtoient et se
marient librement. La technique mixte que j'ai développée, me permet de
jouer à la fois avec les textures, les formes et les couleurs. Crayons
de couleur, pastel à l’huile, encre et estampe se côtoient sur chacune de
mes toiles.
Par les thèmes que j’aborde et par les matériaux que j’utilise, je tente
de me rapprocher, de découvrir et de faire connaître un monde méconnu.
Mes
œuvres font parties de collections corporatives et privées dans plusieurs
pays, tels que la Norvège, l’Italie, le Japon, l’Amérique du Sud et le
Canada.

I
was born in Varennes, Québec, Canada, on the south shore of the St. Lawrence
River, and have always loved to draw…
Formally trained as a graphic designer in Montréal, Québec, Canada, I
subsequently discovered the tremendous liberation found in expressing my
imagination and projecting my unique whimsical imagery on surfaces using the
power of texture and colours.
Over the years, I have explored various types and styles of artistic
expression before discovering the art forms that provide me with a more
complete creative outlet: Mixed Media.
In my studio in Newmarket, Ontario, I experiment with various materials and
constantly work toward perfecting my technique. Integrating and adapting the
varied facets of colour and material I attempt to best portray my chosen
theme: the sea and its creatures. The sea and its power profoundly move me,
and its variety and mystery infuse me with a deep sense of awe. I am
particularly captivated by marine life and my art is influenced by the
endless variety of form and function found in the creatures which inhabit our
blue planet: turtles, seahorses, starfish, fish...
My husband, an oceanographer, was instrumental in introducing me to the
wonders of the marine world. On our regular trips to the seashore, I take
advantage of these opportunities to spend as much time as possible both in and
under the water. The vibrant beauty and majesty of the sea never ceases to
fill me with wonder, at once in its scale and its attention to detail. It is
this wonder which I attempt to capture in my work.
I like the creative potential offered by acrylics and the challenge presented
by the thrill of attempting to master the alchemy of transforming paper into
works of art. My chosen subject permits me the freedom to explore the bright
colour
and the texture resulting from the superposition of purposefully applied
layers of paint and different paper. Shapes appear and disappear with each
layer, sometimes undergoing a complete metamorphosis through the interplay of
texture and light.
When
the canvas background is created, I express my imaginary with colourful style
in a variety of media including pencil crayon, block prints, etching, oil
pastel, ink and whatever medium strikes my fancy.
I am constantly evolving as I am discovering new sources and new ways of
working with new materials to portray a very liberal and personal
interpretation of the wonders of the natural world.
My
paintings are currently held in private and corporate collections around the
world, including Norway, Italy, Japan, South America and Canada.
