Paysages marins

Séduite
par la beauté et le mystère inhérent à la vie et aux paysages marins,
j’exprime ma passion et ma fascination par la peinture avec un regard
fantaisiste et un brin de folie!
Cette frontière énergique du terrestre et du marin est transposée en toute
liberté sur la toile. Je crée des luminosités, des plans plus ou moins
rapprochés, des volumes avec des couleurs vives et des textures résultant de
la superposition de plusieurs couches de peinture acrylique appliquées sur
différents collages et/ou de la pâte à modeler acrylique.
Formes apparaissent et disparaissent à travers les couches, parfois se métamorphosant complètement, par le jeu de la texture et de la lumière. Lorsque que le fond de la toile est texturé à souhait, c’est dans un style audacieux et personnel que je crée les paysages et là prennent forme ces lieux imaginaires.
La
juxtaposition de gros blocs de couleurs vives avec des zones complètement
transformées par des estampes ou encore des collages me permettent de représenter
le potentiel dynamique du terrain ce qui lui donne un aspect vraiment
sculptural. J’utilise une variété de techniques mixtes dans lesquelles on
retrouve crayons, encres, estampes, collages, pochoir et pastels. La relation
entre la couleur et les matériaux que j’utilise est essentielle, elle est
source d'inspiration à ma créativité.
Quand
l’ensemble des blocs sont créés et illustrés par différents dessins,
symboles et autres j’obtiens un jeu de couleurs telle une courtepointe ou
encore une mosaïque qui contribuent au caractère original et ludique de mes
tableaux.
C’est toujours avec un grand enthousiasme qu’à chaque jour j’entre dans mon atelier et c’est avec un plaisir infini que j’expérimente, que j’explore et que je crée mes images pour finalement les immortaliser sur toiles. C’est ça le bonheur et je crois que cela se reflète dans mon œuvre!
Seascape
My
current series of paintings concentrates on an exploration of the boundary
between sea and land: the place where the human world meets the marine world.
It is a world where the blurry, shifting boundaries of the aquatic world meet
the world of the hard, sharp edges and textures of the terrestrial sphere.
Both of these worlds are in a continuous state of flux, but the time scales
differ greatly. Hues and shades of water shift with the passing of a cloud,
while most natural changes in the terrestrial world take place in units of
geological time measured in centuries and eons….
I attempt to capture this line between worlds at a moment in time: to render the dynamic static. This ‘snapshot’ affords both the artist and the viewer the luxury of a detailed exploration of what usually moves either too slowly or too quickly for the human eye to fully appreciate.
Exploring this dynamic edge permits me the freedom to explore the bright colours and the textures resulting from the superposition of purposefully applied layers of paint and different papers. Shapes appear and disappear with each layer, sometimes undergoing a complete metamorphosis through the interplay of texture and light. Once the textured canvas background is created, I project my imagery in a bold, colourful style using a variety of media and techniques which include pencil, crayon, block printing and stencilling, oil pastel, ink and whatever medium strikes my fancy. The relationship between colour and shape is of great importance to me and serves as a great source of inspiration to my creative process. The juxtaposition of large blocks of vibrant colour with areas completely transformed by extensive block printing helps to portray the dynamic potential within the static. The textured blocks of colour which I employ to depict the terrestrial world possess a textile and quilt-like character and contrasts, yet complements, the subtle form and hues of the adjacent aquatic realm.
My
fanciful, stylized and sometimes even playful depictions of our world are a
very personal view which I feel privileged to share with the viewer. I hope
that my work instills in you a small measure of the joy and wonder that I feel
when marveling at the natural!
